The first book of the glyst saga
To the Dead City
One hundred years ago, there was magic across the land, and people called it the Glyst. And those that wielded it were called Glysters. There were Glysters who could heal or see the future, make fire with their hands or talk to beasts, walk through walls or fly. It was a wondrous time, known as the Abundance.
But then came the Cwalee, stepping from holes in the very air. The Cwalee drained the Glysters of their gifts, and of their lives, crushing all who stood against them, Glyster or not.
Now, the Glyst is outlawed, and those who possess it hunted and persecuted, for fear the Cwalee shall return.
When sixteen-year-old Alys Clainh awoke this morning, she thought she would spend the day with her father, hunting. But Alys is about to find out what it’s like to be hunted. Alys is about to begin an adventure that will take her to the Dead City of Utlath and, as the Glyst Saga unfolds, to places she never even imagined.
It is only because I decide it would be sensible to fill my waterskin before leaving the river behind that I turn and see the scabwolf rising from the water.
